Make Meaningful Impact
In this political landscape, millions of people in the U. S. are living with the stress and uncertainty of being undocumented.
To immigrants, the system often seems insurmountable, complex, and arbitrary.
Mental health professionals are uniquely positioned to positively impact their futures and uphold fairness in the process.
We conduct mental health evaluations to objectively assess a person's strengths, weaknesses, symptoms, and characterological features.
Then write objective reports that play a vital role in securing a just outcome.
Every individual's story deserves to be heard and considered with the rigor.
And every adjudicator deserves objective, comprehensive reports that enable fair decision-making.

Why Do You Need This Training?
Immigration evaluations are very different from any other type of evaluations, such as forensic, educational, or diagnostic assessments. In most immigration proceedings, the burden of proof lies on the applicant or beneficiary to show emotional distress, and a psychological evaluation can be very helpful in these cases.
It is important, however, that the evaluator be well-trained and able to answer the psycho-legal question at hand in an unambiguous, neutral, and ethically sound manner. Just speaking the client's native language does not qualify a mental health professional to conduct this type of evaluations.
Immigration law is extremely complex, and you need to have a basic understanding of the legal background of the cases for which you wish to do a psychological evaluation. Practicing outside your scope of practice is not only unethical but also a great disservice to those who are seeking professional help.
